Incontinence Products for Women
This entry was posted on July 27, 2012.
Incontinence affects almost twice as many women than men. The symptoms of the condition involve the loss of bladder control which women of all ages can experience at different levels in their lives. Fortunately there is a wide selection of incontinence products to help manage and treat the symptoms.
Different types of incontinence:
One of the milder and more common forms of female incontinence which causes the bladder to leak when external pressure is applied. This means small leakages are likely to occur when you cough, laugh or sneeze.
This is when the bladder never feels as if it has properly been emptied, causing constant and regular leakages.
Also commonly referred to as an overactive bladder, it is the most severe form of the condition, making you feel like you constantly need to go to the toilet. The strong urge usually comes very suddenly, allowing very little time for you to get to the nearest bathroom, causing leakages to occur.
What causes it?
There are a wide variety of things that can cause female incontinence, one of which is childbirth. Experiencing a long labour or giving birth to a large baby can make women especially susceptible to bladder problems of the stress variety.
Menopause and aging are other common causes, making some women more prone to leakages as their body begins to produce less oestrogen and their bladder to lose elasticity. Bladder infection can also cause irritation which if not treated properly can lead to incontinence.
Incontinence products for treatment
If you feel you may be suffering from this condition, speak to your doctor who will be able to confirm if you do in fact have an incontinence problem and if so, the severity of it. They may ask you to keep a diary to monitor your bladders activity to get a clearer understanding of how frequently you go to the toilet and how much urine you expel each time.
Your doctor may also recommend they take a sample of your urine to check for infections before recommending the use of incontinence products or any other forms of treatment.
The important thing to remember is that incontinence is a completely manageable and treatable condition, regardless of your age or physical condition. There is no need to feel embarrassed or ashamed as it is estimated that around three million people in the UK alone suffer from incontinence at some degree – proof that you are not alone.
Beaucare offer a wide range of discreet incontinence aids for both men and women that will keep you feeling dry, comfortable and confident.
