What is VAT Exemption / Relief?
VAT exemption or VAT relief allows disabled or chronically sick people to buy certain items at 0% tax instead of the standard 20% VAT; this helps to save a significant amount of money.
Who can get VAT Relief?
To be approved for VAT relief the government says you have to fit into the following criteria:
Charities: Provide your charity number
A person who is ‘chronically sick or disabled’ if he/she is a person:
- you have a physical or mental impairment that affects your ability to carry out everyday activities, eg blindness
- you have a condition that’s treated as chronic sickness, like diabetes
- you’re terminally ill
You don’t qualify if you’re elderly but able-bodied, or if you’re temporarily disabled; such as a broken limb.
What do we need?
The government requires a simple declaration to be made to be made about the nature of your disability at the time of ordering. You can download the forms here:
Things to Remember
We have no control on which products are eligible for VAT relief
We don’t make any more or less money if we charge you VAT or we don’t charge you VAT
If you do not complete the VAT exemption forms you will not be eligible for VAT relief and we will have to charge you full VAT on your whole order.
