When thickening a drink to make it easier to swallow, it’s important that you thicken it to the correct prescribed level, not too thin and not too thick. But unfortunately you can’t rely on the guidance given by the thickener manufacturer because different drinks require different amounts of thickener to reach the same consistency. The consistency of a drink can also change over time, particularly as a hot drink cools down. We explain this in more detail in why test the thickness of a drink.
Until now, the only way to test that a drink was at the correct thickness was the IDDSI flow test. But this is quite complicated and difficult to perform by yourself so is not practical to test every drink. In our article on the IDDSI Syringe Test, we explain these problems, issues and limitations in more detail.
The Viscgo Level 1 Test Kit enables anyone who is thickening a drink with a xanthan gum-based thickener to quickly and easily check that it is the correct thickness for Level 1 Slightly Thick.
By using the Test Kit you can be assured that you are preparing drinks accurately, giving you peace of mind and confidence that every drink is the correct thickness.
The kit consists of 2 grey sticks that have been calibrated against standardised liquids matching the IDDSI Framework, verified by Associate Professor Ben Hanson of University College London. They are washable and reusable and made of food grade plastic.
Delivery
Smaller Items
Smaller products are usually delivered within 5 working days, Monday to Saturday, 7.30am – 6.30pm. We use our own nationwide fleet coupled with trusted couriers to fulfil deliveries across mainland UK. Some couriers may deliver slightly earlier or later.
Larger Items
Larger items, including furniture and commercial products, will be delivered by a Beaucare Medical van or one of our trusted suppliers. Our customer service teams will contact you after the sale of higher value items to discuss the logistics of your item.
We cover the majority of mainland UK through supplier and internal distribution; therefore, please make us aware of any special requirements before or straight after placing an order.
On specified items, we offer an installation charge payable at the time of your order. With this service, a Beaucare trained expert delivers and installs the product whilst demonstrating key features and how to maintain your new purchase.
Standard delivery takes from 3 working days; the exact lead time we offer after your purchase is subject to your postcode and our logistical coverage. Our customer service team are on hand to help with any queries you may have before and after your purchase.
If you live in a highland, island or rural postcode, delivery may take longer than 7 working days. We won’t be able to finalise your order during online checkout; however, we invite you to contact us to explore how to get our products to you through an external courier network. Once approved, we will place your order to arrange delivery. We always aim to deliver your order within 7 working days, but it’s subject to product, postcode and carrier availability.
Extended Lead Times
Most of our furniture is made to order, therefore it may take time to be sent out to you. Our trusted suppliers work hard to ensure the products they manufacture are of the highest quality and fit for the use in which you require them. Our customer service teams will be in contact after the sale to make you aware of any specialist product or delivery information. We work with various manufacturers, who help us offer you a broader range of products. These suppliers may offer different delivery times and options. Please wait until the regular delivery due date has passed before contacting us.
Out of Stock
If your item is out of stock, we’ll contact you to let you know. If you’re happy to wait and the item comes back in stock within 28 days, you’ll be charged and the item will be delivered to you. If it’s still not available within 28 days, we’ll cancel your order and refund you.
If you’re not happy to wait, please contact us to cancel your order.
Delivery Access
If you’re worried items may not be easily deliverable due to access restrictions, please contact us after you place your order. Normally, this isn’t an issue but if you suspect our delivery team will struggle, we can inform them ahead of time to ensure they are prepared when they come to your location.
Delivery Restrictions
We reserve the right not to deliver an order if we believe the address isn’t secure or we cannot offer our usual delivery service effectively. If this affects an order you place, we’ll contact you as soon as possible.
With our regular distribution network, we can only guarantee mainland UK deliveries. If you live or require delivery outside of these parameters, geographical location and courier availability can restrict our service, therefore we invite you to contact us to ascertain which options we can offer to you.
