Covid-19 and its longevity on surfaces is slowly being unravelled. Whilst lockdown eases and businesses begin to open their doors, we are finding ourselves navigating the new normal. The whole world, what we know, and our surroundings are changing at such a fast pace sometimes it’s hard to keep up.Covid-19 on surfaces
Recent NHS findings have indicated that Covid-19 can survive on surfaces for up to NINE days. Scientists have backed the claim and highlighted surfaces like metal, glass and plastic are common touchpoints where the virus can linger. With Britain waking up and footfall increasing publicly, what can we implement to regain people’s trust? Our economy and livelihood depend on innovation and our willingness to adapt.
A recent study released in May by Beijing based microbiologists, found that they could not obtain infectious viral particles from cotton clothing after four days and that no virus could be obtained from paper surface after five days. Even though this is worrying, it answers an unknown and the data suggests that we are making our way through the giant labyrinth we are faced with.
The researchers at NIH however did find that copper surfaces tended to kill the virus in four hours. This is profound news for those in product development, they can implement findings to further protect us from potential threats. With research currently underway and new findings coming to us, companies have to be on the ball and react accordingly to earn a piece of this emerging market.

Silver ions have also been tested and proven effective against the H1N1 virus (this has very similar characteristics and traits as Covid-19), achieving a 99.99% reduction in viable H1N1 virus particles.
When we consider how many people may not wash or sanitise their hands effectively compared to how many people use the same door, we have to remain vigilant. Our Purehold range ensures your door handles become a mitigating factor and enhance your internal hygiene practises. Additionally, these products can be fitted to your existing handles in under 10 seconds, providing a quick, economic and importantly, safe addition to public areas, workplaces and the home.
Whilst looking out for new technologies and products is good, we cannot forget about fundamental hygiene practises. Thoroughly washing your hands and preventing touching your face is equally important, these messages should continually be at the forefront of your hygiene campaigns.
